ECC’s Dumoulin named ISCC’s best
The Elgin Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams had a banner year of all-conference selections in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference, and both will host Region IV playoff openers on Thursday.
The Spartans’ women’s team, which won the ISCC championship, placed three players on the first team, including Hampshire graduate Cassie Dumoulin, who became the first player to ever win the conference player of the year award twice.
Dumoulin, who has scored over 1,000 points in her ECC career, led the conference in scoring (22.9 ppg), was fourth in assists (3.9 apg) and third in free throw percentage (80).
Joining Cassie Dumoulin on the all-conference first team is sophomore DiJon Smith of South Elgin and freshman Alex Dumoulin, Cassie’s sister, of Hampshire.
Smith led the ISCC in rebounding (12.2 rpg) and averaged 12.5 points per game in conference play. Alex Dumoulin was fifth in the league in scoring (14.3 ppg) and third in rebounding (10.4 rpg).
Freshman Carly Saraceno of Downers Grove South was named to the second team.
The Spartans, 24-6 overall, won the ISCC title with a 12-2 league record. ECC coach Jerry McLaughlin was also named the ISCC Coach of the Year.
On the men’s side, Bartlett grad Mike Banks and Burlington Central product Corey Ray were named to the ISCC first team, while Lance Vesper of Hoffman Estates was named second team.
Banks, a sophomore guard, finished seventh in the conference in scoring (15.9 ppg) and led the Spartans in steals with 28. Rau, a sophomore forward, was second in the conference in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and was recently honored for collecting over 500 rebounds at ECC. He also averaged 13.7 points per game scoring in conference action.
The Spartans’ men’s team finished 7-7 in conference play for third place and is 11-14 overall.
Each ECC team will host a Region IV playoff opener Thursday at the ECC Events Center as each received No. 3 seeds. The women host No. 6 Waubonsee at 5 p.m. and them men entertain No. 6 Morton at 7 p.m. The Region IV semifinals are at Illinois Valley College in Oglesby, the women playing on Saturday and the men on Sunday.
