Kiwanis Club sponsors 8 needy children
The Kiwanis Club of Willowbrook-Burr Ridge donated $432 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Children's Birthday Project to sponsor 8 needy children in the program. This partnership fulfills the Kiwanis' mission of “serving the children of the world”, and will contribute to happier birthdays for the needy children enrolled in HSP's program. The club has supported HSP since 1999.
The funds will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a child ages 3-11 with a 20 lb. Birthday Box. In the box are 4-8 toys which includes a game or puzzle, activity/learning toy, crafting/art set, or sports equipment and gender specific toys. They also receive 5-7 new books, school supplies, a stuffed animal, mini filler gifts, and a party-in-a-box. The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program and food at Christmas as well.
Since its founding in 1976, the Kiwanis Club of Willowbrook-Burr-Ridge has worked to bring about their goals of a better community and higher social, business, and professional standards. In addition to their sponsorship of HSP, the Kiwanis Club of Willowbrook-Burr Ridge has helped fund shelter and handicap ramps in their local park, a little league scoreboard, park equipment, Kiwanis Twin Lakes Camp for handicapped children, and much more.

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
