Fundraiser in Crystal Lake marches with drumline

McHenry County’s youth will shine at Raue Center for the Arts in “An Evening of Percussion” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, featuring the Crystal Lake Strikers All Star Drumline.

Talented drummers from around town will come together for a show packed with energy and excitement. Entering its third year, this annual fundraiser for Crystal Lake Strikers and Raue Center is always a hit.

The Crystal Lake Strikers formed in 2007 by Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley, Crystal Lake Councilman Brett Hopkins and Prairie Ridge Drumline instructor Thomas Kundmann. Their goal was to provide a performing outlet for drummers of college age and older as well as to support and educate aspiring young musicians. The Strikers award scholarships to high school performers pursuing music.

The All-Star Winter Drumline is the educational component of the Crystal Lake Strikers. High school drummers from area schools make up the all-star group that performs at various events across the Midwest. They are instructed by the adult members of the Strikers.

“An Evening of Percussion” is a night of music featuring 13 different acts. In past years, performances included things like a drum-off between a 5-year-old and his dad.

This is an all-ages show. Tickets are $12, $5 for ages 8 and older and free for ages 7 and younger.

Tickets can be purchased at rauecenter.org, by calling (815) 356-9212 or at the Raue Center, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake.
