UEC, FVC crossovers taking shape

The matchups for the girls basketball crossover games in the Upstate Eight and Fox Valley conferences later this week are becoming clearer.

In the Upstate Eight, if Waubonsie Valley beats Neuqua Valley tonight, a coin flip will be held between Bartlett athletic director Jeff Bral and Waubonsie’s Mike Rogowski to determine which of their teams will travel to Geneva for Friday’s first-place crossover. If Neuqua Valley should upset Waubonsie, Bartlett will become the UEC Valley champion and play at Geneva Friday night.

The second place team in the Valley, or the loser of the coin flip, will be at Streamwood on Thursday night.

The other UEC crossovers Thursday will have St. Charles East hosting Neuqua Valley, Metea Valley playing at St. Charles North, South Elgin at Batavia, Lake Park at Larkin and East Aurora at Elgin.

In the FVC, much is yet to be decided but it is clear that Cary-Grove will play at Grayslake Central in the first-place game and Dundee-Crown will play at Grayslake North in the second-place game. All FVC crossovers are on Friday night.

Beyond that in the FVC, though, things are murky at best with games on the schedule tonight and Wednesday. The Valley Division of the FVC has several possible tie scenarios that could involve any or all of the remaining schools in the division — Huntley, McHenry, CL South, Prairie Ridge and Jacobs.

The FVC’s tiebreaker, after head-to-head, is points allowed in division play and then team free throw percentage.

Neither conference is designating the first place vs. first place game an official conference championship contest.

Monday’s results

Elgin Academy 27, Chicagoland Jewish 25: Ashley Barnes scored 14 points to lead the Hilltoppers (15-10) to a Class 1A regional win at Westminster Christian. Elgin Academy, the No. 5 seed, will play top seed Westminster in Wednesday’s first semifinal.

Streamwood 60, Addison Trail 49: Injury-riddled Streamwood assured itself of a .500 season with this nonconference win on the road by outscoring the host Blazers 35-26 in the second half. Jessica Cerda had 19 points for the Sabres (14-12) and Hannah McGlone added 18. Deja Moore chipped in 10 points for the Sabres as well.
