Cary-Grove clinches share of FVC Valley

Cary-Grove 42, Jacobs 33: Olivia Jakubicek had 16 points and 5 rebounds to lead Cary-Grove to a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division girls basketball win over Jacobs Wednesday night. Coupled with Dundee-Crown’s loss to Huntley, the Trojans (15-8, 9-1) clinched at least a share of their second straight Valley Division championship. C-G can clinch the title outright with a win over Huntley on Saturday night in Cary.

Paige Lincicum added 12 points, 5 assists and 5 steals in Wednesday’s win. The Trojans led just 25-24 going into the fourth quarter before pulling away.

Maggie Hansen had 10 points and Jessica Tennant added 7 for Jacobs (5-18, 2-8).

Streamwood 55, Burlington Central 34: Hannah McGlone had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Sabres (12-12) to a nonconference win at Burlington. Deja Moore added 13 points for Streamwood and Holly Foret had 8. Streamwood can wrap up second place in the Upstate Eight River with a win over Elgin Friday night. Olivia Anderson led Burlington Central with 7 points while Jessica Laird, Sarah Nelson and Brenda Thasavong had 6 each for the Rockets (11-14).

McHenry 50, CL South 41: Lauren Del Vecchio had 11 points and Sara Mickow added 10 points and 11 rebounds but the Gators (10-15, 4-6 couldn’t overcome a 13-point deficit in this FVC Valley loss. Stephanie Melone added 8 points for CL South.

Rockford Christian 67, Westminster Christian 47: Claire Speweik scored 11 points and McKaila Hays had 10 but Westminster Christian (17-7, 4-2) fell short in this Northeast Athletic Conference game in Rockford. Rockford Christian (17-6, 7-0) clinched the NAC title with the win. The Royals are likely a semifinal opponent of St. Edward’s in next week’s Class 2A North Boone regional.
