It’s worth the journey for LZ

Lake Zurich’s boys basketball team made its trip to Milwaukee’s Bradley Center worthwhile.

Getting contributions from up and down their lineup, the Bears beat Johnsburg 55-31 on Saturday.

Doug Murphy and Jeff O’Brien scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Lake Zurich, which improved to 13-10 with its second win in less than 24 hours.Mirko Grcic, the Bears#146; season-long scoring leader at 19 points per game, had modest numbers of 3 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.#147;A very unselfish performance,#148; Lake Zurich coach Billy Pitcher said. #147;(He was) getting his teammates involved.#148;The Bears#146; bench outscored Johnsburg#146;s 26-8. Lake Zurich jumped out to a 10-0 lead, was up 14-5 at the end of the first quarter and led 31 18 at halftime.The score was 43-20 after three quarters. JD Parcheta had a 5-point run, which included a pull-up jumper and corner 3-pointer, to stop a Johnsburg run in the second quarter after the Skyhawks had pulled within eight.Parcheta finished with 4 assists and 8 rebounds, and #147;played a great floor game, with hustle plays, loose balls and tipped balls,#148; Pitcher said.Jerry Bauer came off the bench to score 8 points and grab 6 rebounds for Lake Zurich.Kevin Dombrowski had 10 points for Johnsburg.Stevenson 65, Palatine 46: The Patriots led from start to finish, expanding the point gap to 30 points in the third quarter.Mike Fleming led Stevenson (12-8) with 16 points. Jalen Brunson and Danny Nowak scored 11 points apiece. Fremd 61, Carmel 30: The Corsairs were led by Joe Molloy, who scored 8 points.

Carmel fell to 7-11.
