Join in Lake Co. YMCA's health/wellness series

The Central Lake YMCA in Vernon Hills is seeking women age 30 and better to participate in a free eight-week health and wellness program.

“Press Play: Take Charge for Women” will teach participants how to best manage their own health and safety. Topics covered will include self-defense, kickboxing, physical fitness, yoga, sleep, mental health and nutrition. Most classes will include both an informational component and a workout session conducted by one of the YMCA's personal trainers.

“This is a great opportunity for women to learn how to take time for themselves, make new friends and be part of our Y family,” said Health & Wellness Coordinator Clair Pauschert, program facilitator who also will teach yoga during the series. She added that the program will be designed partially based on participants' needs and goals that will be discussed at the first meeting.

Participants also will get a free membership to the Y during the series.

Designed for women who are not members of the Y, the program will take place Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings for eight weeks Feb. 2 through March 25. Thursday classes take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., while Sunday classes will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Central Lake Y, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. Participants are asked to attend all 14 sessions for the optimal benefit.

Alexander Golbin, M.D., Ph.D., of Sleep & Behavior Medicine Institute, will be one of the guest presenters. He will discuss “Sleep in Women: Understanding Your Unique Sleep Requirements.”

To register for the program, call the Central Lake YMCA at (847) 367-6797. Only a few spots are left and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
