See how you can 'green up' your holidays this year

‘Tis the season to think “green” and the ECOmmunity Public Action Network wants to help you celebrate the eco-friendly way.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, the group will host “Go Green For The Holidays,” a lunch hour eco-fair and forum of creative choices, gifts and helpful advice to “green up” your seasonal celebrations. Come prepared to socialize, shop, sample and share ideas for environmentally friendly holiday dining, decorating, gift-giving, and more.

Each month, ECOmmunity's Green Bag Lunch Series highlights eco-themed topics and speakers in an informal, drop-in format that is open to the public. This month's event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the second-floor atrium at the Woodstock Square Mall, 110 S. Johnson St. in downtown Woodstock. Networking, holiday crafts, “green gifts” and educational exhibits will open at 11 a.m. and continue after the lunch-hour program from noon to 1 p.m. Most displays will remain open until 2 p.m.

Meet special guest Mike Mitchell, executive director of the Illinois Recycling Association, who will share recycling tips and useful ideas to see you through the holidays, and throughout the year. This month's meet-up also features organic recipes for your holiday table from some of the area's top vegetarian chefs. The round-table discussion format allows extra time for participants to ask questions and share their own ideas.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their business cards and brochures to hand out. Everyone is welcome and RSVP is not required. A $5 voluntary donation per-person helps to cover program costs.

ECOmmunity's Green Bag Meet-up Series is a monthly networking program, open to all who are interested in eco-friendly living and “green” enterprise, nature conservation, clean energy and other environmental issues. Sessions are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Woodstock Square Mall, 110 S. Johnson St. Participants can bring their own lunch if they like, or just come to join the conversation.

The all-volunteer ECOmmunity Public Action Network strives to promote sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyles in the community, through educational activities, “green” business development, public service projects, and environmental advocacy.
