ECC plans auditions for ‘Drowsy Chaperone”
Submitted by ECC
Elgin Community College Musical Theatre will hold auditions for the spring production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Directing and choreographing the musical is ECC theater instructor Konnie Kay. ECC professor John G. Slawson is the artistic and musical director.
Winner of the 2006 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score, this winking sendup to 1920s musicals begins when a die-hard musical theater fan puts on his favorite cast album. The musical bursts to life in his living room, and the audience is led through a tongue-in-cheek tale of a Broadway starlet trying to find and keep her true love.
Auditions for men and women are available by appointment from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
Open auditions are scheduled after the appointment times for both days. All auditions are held in the ECC Arts Center, Room VPA 284D on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Performers should prepare a musical number from any Broadway show other than “The Drowsy Chaperone” and bring sheet music for the accompanist that will be provided. Taped accompaniment or a cappella singing will not be permitted. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the dance audition. Character ages range from 21 to 50. Auditions are open to ages 16 and older.
If necessary, callbacks are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14.
Rehearsals begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and are held from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. “The Drowsy Chaperone” opens Friday, Feb. 17, and runs weekends through Sunday, Feb. 26.
