October 'Images' highlights new COD buildings

Each month, Images highlights the personalities, news and curriculum of a vibrant College of DuPage campus. The show airs on 13 area cable television stations.

The October Images highlights the College's new Culinary & Hospitality Center, Homeland Security Education Center and Student Services Center. These three facilities, totaling more than 180,000 square feet of new construction, bring state-of-the-art technology and amenities to COD students and the communities of District 502.

Located on the northeastern edge of the College's Glen Ellyn campus near the McAninch Arts Center, the 60,000 square-foot Culinary & Hospitality Center houses the Culinary and Hospitality Management program. The new center features “Waterleaf,” a fine dining restaurant; “Wheat,” a casual dining room; a large meeting space for receptions and special events; and six rooms in the facility's boutique hotel, “Inn at Water's Edge.”

In addition, the center houses the College's Multimedia Services department, which features a large studio and editing suites.

Just north of the CHC, the Student Services Center provides a new front door for students and connects to both the Berg Instructional Center and the Student Resource Center, giving the campus a dynamic look and feel.

The 65,000-square-foot SSC houses the Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, Counseling and Advising offices as well as various Student Activities offices. Students also have access to Campus Central, an information desk/one-stop-shop offering new and prospective students the guidance they need to begin their education at the College.

Located on west campus, the 66,000 square-foot Homeland Security Education Center is a comprehensive, multi-jurisdictional training center that features a full-scale indoor street scene for force-on-force exercises, forensics and cybercrimes labs, a smoke room with moveable walls, a fire and scaling tower, and a full-size ambulance for first-responder training.

Approximately 7,600 individuals are expected to receive training through the HEC annually. The building houses the College's Criminal Justice and Fire Science/EMS programs, as well as the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and the College of DuPage Police Department.

Construction of these three dynamic facilities began in 2010 and is part of the College's $383 million Facilities Master Plan. These projects were funded through proceeds from the College's successful 2002 referendum.

Images airs at various times on cable television stations in Downers Grove, Wheaton, Addison, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Lemont, Elk Grove, Darien, Aurora and West Chicago. Check local cable listings for times and channels.
