Illinois Doberman Rescue to host adoption event

Submitted by Illinois Doberman Rescue

Illinois Doberman Rescue will hold an adoption event from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Family Dog Center of Illinois, 6200 Berkshire Drive, Crystal Lake. For details, call Pam Abare-Newton at (847) 277-1082 or visit www.ildoberescue.com.

Illinois Doberman Rescue operates as a nonprofit organization based in Northern Illinois. Its goal is to rescue Dobermans in need, to place them into responsible homes, and to educate the public about the Doberman breed.

Rescue Dobermans come from animal control organizations, humane societies, and owner give-up situations within Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana.

After entering the program, the Dobermans are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped.

While awaiting adoption, most of the Dobermans live in foster homes throughout Illinois, where the volunteers attempt to evaluate their temperaments, learn their behavioral quirks and work on basic manners and obedience.

The group endeavors to place each Doberman into a home best suited for that individual dog. Some factors taken into account include the dog’s reaction to children, other dogs and cats. Applicants are screened to ensure that each adoption is a good match and provides a permanent home for the dog.

Family Dog Center of Illinois in Crystal Lake is a 5,000-square-foot dog-training facility specializing in the humane training of the family dog, utilizing Positive-Reinforcement training methods and no-choke training collars.

The goal of humane training methods is to prevent physical injury to the dog and to ensure that the warmth, lovingness and friendliness of the family dog is not lost or damaged, as is often seen with abusive-styles of training methods.

Family Dog Center partners with numerous animal shelter and rescue organizations to make its facility available for special events such as adoptathons and fundraising activities.
