MAC presents 2011-12 family programming

The McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn, is pleased to offer several family-oriented programs as part of its 2011-2012 season.

Performances include dance, music and theater. All performances are held on the MAC's 800-seat Mainstage.

Following is a list of scheduled performances.

Justin Roberts & The Not Ready for Naptime Players, 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Singer/songwriter Justin Roberts shares stories from a kid's perspective. His latest album, “Jungle Gym,” features songs about gym class parachutes and the trauma of getting lost during a school fire drill with a flair event parents enjoy. Tickets: $12.

Yamato – The Drummers of Japan, 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. The Japanese group presents an elegant performance of Taiko drumming. Tickets: $38 adult/36 senior/28 youth.

Von Heidecke Chicago Festival Ballet – “The Nutcracker,” featuring New Philharmonic, 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16 and 17, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17 and 18. Tchaikovsky's timeless holiday classic comes to life to the choreography of internationally acclaimed choreographer Kenneth von Heidecke and his world class principal dancers. Tickets: $37 adult/35 senior/27 youth.

Moscow Festival Ballet – “Swan Lake,” 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. The acclaimed dance company presents Tchaikovsky's classic story of Princess Odette, turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer until true love can release the spell. Tickets: $46 adult/44 senior/36 youth.

Kidjazz!, 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Join the Arts Center Jazz Ensemble for an interactive concert introducing the world of jazz and other American musical styles. This year's Kidjazz! highlights the work of trumpeter, composer and bandleader John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie. For ages 5 to 11. Tickets: $12.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia Presents “Treasured Storied by Eric Carle,” 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10. Drawn from the pages of Eric Carle, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia presents inventive adaptations of “Brown Bear, Brown Bear,” “What Do You See?” “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Papa Please Get the Moon for Me” with their unique puppetry. Tickets: $12.

New Philharmonic – “Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies,” 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15. Share the wonder and enchantment of your favorite Disney musicals with four vocalists and New Philharmonic

Leahy, 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6. Join eight musical brothers and sisters in a world-wind performance of music, combining the influences of their Irish and Scottish roots. Tickets: $42 adult/40 senior/32 youth. First- and second-row tickets: $67 adult/65 senior/57 youth.
