Veterans welcome to benefits, services fair in Woodstock

The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is hosting a free Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair to offer veterans a chance to learn about the benefits they have earned. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Woodstock Opera House, 121 W. Van Buren St., Woodstock.

The fair will bring federal, state and local agencies and organizations together in one location.

Participating organizations include McHenry County Veterans’ Assistance Commission; Transitional Living Services, a charitable organization that helps homeless veterans; Lake and McHenry Veteran and Family Services, which reaches out to veterans, troops and their families; and BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center, which runs a veteran-specific program.

The offices of Congressman Don Manzullo, state Rep. Jack Franks and the Illinois attorney general’s office will be represented.
