Health Dept. director selected for state health council

Director of Population Health Services Mark Pfister was recently selected to be an at-large member of the 15-member Executive Council for the Illinois Public Health Association.

The professional association, which represents nearly 7,000 members and 90 public health agencies throughout the state, is devoted to improve the health of residents in Illinois through leadership in advancement of the practice of public health.

Pfister, a resident of Lindenhurst, has worked 20 years with the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center. He was appointed Director of Population Health Services in 2010.

Before that, he was interim director and associate director of Environmental Health Services and Aquatic Biologist and Lakes Management Program Coordinator for the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center.

He holds a bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science and psychology from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., a master's in environmental science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and he is currently working on a doctorate in public health from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
