Garden, train enthusiasts to tour private gardens June 25

The Garden Conservancy's Open Days program features two private gardens open to the public in Barrington Hills and North Barrington on Saturday, June 25.

Admission to each private garden is $5, Open Days are rain or shine, and no reservations are required. Call (888) 842-2442, or visit www.opendaysprogram.org for more information.

At the Gardens of Wandering Tree (125 Arrowhead Lane, North Barrington), an internationally recognized proto-typical miniature garden railroad, “The Glorée and Tryumfant” Garden Railway, consists of 6,000 square feet of miniature waterfalls, streams, lakes, bridges, trestles, and city and country vignettes, all replete with plant material and miniature trees of every description.

Visit the garden of Peggy & Eric Olsen (237 Oak Knoll Road, Barrington Hills), where amid quaint arbors and fountains, the garden includes formal venues such as a flagstone walled terrace, a cottage perennial pool garden, arborvitae hedges, and a boxwood-defined English rose garden, and informal areas such as a two-acre woodland walk.

Both gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
