Safe prom a success for Wheaton schools

On behalf of Operation Safe Celebration 2011, we want to express our appreciation to all those who contributed in so many ways to make this year’s post prom parties a success.

For the 17th year, the schools and communities associated with Wheaton Warrenville District 200 — Wheaton, Warrenville, Winfield, and Carol Stream — came together in many ways to support these events on April 28 (for Wheaton North) and May 14 (for Wheaton Warrenville South). They provide a safe and substance-free place for our high school students to have a fun experience after-prom.

These parties were attended by well over 1,200 students, who played games and activities, had the opportunity to win prizes, ate a variety of their favorite snacks, and enjoyed hanging out with their peers.

Thanks to the hundreds of parent volunteers who gave many hours and creative talent to plan, decorate, coordinate, run and take down the party.

To the many organizations, businesses, individuals and District 200 — thank you for your continued support throughout the years in your time, donations and services that make Operation Safe Celebration an annual success. Your generosity is wonderful and inspiring across the many sources that come together for this purpose.

Thanks to the Wheaton Park District, which donates the Wheaton Community Center and support staff for the two nights of parties in addition to the many weeks of planning, preparation and execution.

Finally, thanks to our high school students, who consistently attend these parties each year after prom. We put these evenings together for you, and each year we are rewarded with your enthusiasm, appreciation and your respectful behavior. If anyone would like to participate in or support Operation Safe Celebration 2012, please contact one of the two high schools.
