Cary-Grove downs Crystal Lake S.

The Cary-Grove baseball team will play for a regional championship today after the Trojans knocked off Crystal Lake South 8-3 Friday in the semifinals of the Class 4A McHenry regional.

The Trojans (25-9) will take on Prairie Ridge in the 3:30 p.m. championship game this afternoon.

John Spoelstra tossed a complete-game 6-hitter Friday to lead Cary-Grove to the win. He struck out 5 and walked 3.

Michael Vilardo powered a 2-run home run out of the park to lead the Trojans’ offense. Nick Richter added a double and Alex Wians had 2 singles.

Chris Hauser and Dom Winiecki each had doubles for the Gators and Nick Martin suffered the loss on the mound.

Lyons 3, Bartlett 0: Lyons Township’s Conner Cuff no-hit the Hawks in the semifinals of the Class 4A Schaumburg regional. Cory Motz allowed just 5 hits for Bartlett in suffering the loss.
