The South Elgin baseball team put Streamwood back in first place in the Upstate Eight Conference River Division Monday.
The Storm upset St. Charles East 6-5 in the completion of a game suspended by darkness in a 4-4 tie on April 7.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Monday, Jimmy Mansfield led off with a single for South Elgin (19-8, 14-8). Robbie Green bunted into a fielder’s choice and Nate Garris took a 1-2 pitch to right field for a double to score Mansfield with the winning run.
Eric Stazy picked up the win for the Storm.
Streamwood now leads the River with an 18-4 record, while St. Charles East and St. Charles North, who play each other this week, are each 17-5. If Streamwood wins at Geneva today, the Sabres can clinch no worse than a share of the title on Wednesday when they host Geneva.
Streamwood 10, East Aurora 0: Streamwood (25-4 overall) got home runs from Brandon Guilfoyle and Richie Gorski and a 3-run triple from Pat Manning to roll over East Aurora. Zach Harris (2-0) threw a 2-hitter for the complete-game win.
Dundee-Crown 4, Huntley 1: Mike Lodi scattered 8 hits and used the big bat of Jake Romano (2-for-3, 3B, 3 RBI) to lead the Chargers (19-12, 16-7) to a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Scott Nowicke added 2 hits for D-C. Justin Gundlach had 2 hits for Huntley (19-8, 14-6) and Jake Skaab was the losing pitcher.
Grayslake Central 6, Jacobs 2: Connor Conzelmann had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Dillon O’Toole drove in a run but Jacobs (11-17) fell in an FVC crossover. Max Rider was the losing pitcher.
Richmond 6, Hampshire 3: Nick Holze had 2 doubles and an RBI for Hampshire (12-12, 5-4) in this Big Northern East loss. Brandon Wescher was the losing pitcher.
Cary-Grove 20, Woodstock 3: Matt Panek had a grand slam home run to lead Cary-Grove’s 19-hit attack in this FVC crossover. Matt Byrne (2B, 3B, 3 RBI), Nick Richter (2 doubles), Kevin Weber (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Tyler Lau (2 doubles, Alex Wians (2B), Matt DiCicco (2B) and Mike Vilardo (3 RBI) all contributed for the Trojans (21-8). Christopher Leach was the winning pitcher.
