Maine West clinches in CSL North

Maine West softball coach Mike Murin steered the Warriors to their fifth Central Suburban League North crown in 10 seasons on Friday in Northbrook.

The veteran coach, who has also directed the Maine West varsity baseball team, watched his squad improved to 15-9 and 9-1 in the conference with a 7-2 victory over Glenbrook North.

Sophomore Ariel Valles (13-7) struck out five in an 8-hitter as junior Katie Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Holly Wengerski, who led off the game with a single, Gina Larucci, Olivia Beers and Renee Pond also had hits for the Warriors.

“It was a great effort by the girls,” said Murin, whose club finishes the regular season with games against Resurrection, Buffalo Grove and Mundelein next week.

Barrington 8, Fremd 2: Colleen Shandley (3-for-4, RBI), Loren Kryzsko (2-for-4, double), Liz Owen (2-for-4, double) and Kelsey Kazmier (double) led the offense for visiting Barrington (21-10, 9-4).

Danielle Di Iorio belted her second homer of the season in the Fillies’ 3-run seventh inning.

Barrington ace Kiley Dolezal (17-7) struck out 10 and walked two.

Sophomore Michelle Mazur (3-for-3, double), Caitlin Patenaude (double) and Stacey Hnytka (2-for-3) were top hitter for Fremd (21-3-1, 10-3), which received 3 strikeouts from Rachel Doering (11-2) in six innings.

Elk Grove 10, Hersey 0: All ten Elk Grove players had at least 1 hit, and three had two as the Grens improved 24-3 and 13-1 in the MSL East.

Junior Dani Goranson (22-3) went 2-for-2 with a walk and 2 RBI and also struck out nine with a 2-hitter.

Kristen Cetkovic belted a 3-run homer, two days after she walloped the third grand slam of her career against Rolling Meadows.

Tori Liewergen went 2-for-2 and Elisa Payne was 2-for-3 with a double for the Grens, who also received a double from Devan Parkison.

Mallory Eichhorn doubled for visiting Hersey (7-16, 4-9).

Hoffman Estates 10, Wheeling 2: Junior Alex Tuminaro (2-for-3, triple), freshman Kaileen Hendle (2-for-4, double) and Emily Fett (double) led visiting Hoffman Estates (6-18-1, 4-9).

Hoffman senior Emily Allan struck out five while tossing a 4-hitter.

Freshman Katie Quagliano struck out four for Wheeling (5-15, 0-12).

Rolling Meadows 9, Prospect 2: Sara Brunlieb (13-6) threw a complete game with 4 strikeouts for the visiting Mustangs.

Kelly Keyzer (2-for-3), Josie Suchecki (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Sam Anderson (2-for-4, double) were top hitters for Meadows (16-12, 8-6), which clinched a tie for second place in the MSL East.

Mary Styzek and Amy Graham each went 2-for-4 for the Knights (5-21, 2-12) while Nicole Naranjo and Nikki Surico had their other hits.

Leyden 14, Proviso East 0 (5 innings): Hannah Seymore tossed a no-hitter for visiting Leyden which is 20-5 and 7-2 in the West Suburban Gold.
