Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity looking for families

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley wants to offer a hand up by helping people who may be living in substandard housing or those who have dreamed of owning their own home an opportunity to learn more about Habitat’s homeownership program.

Habitat will be hosting an informational session to help identify candidates from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Elgin Evangelical Free Church, 1900 Big Timber Road, Elgin.

Attending the informational session is a family’s first step of realizing their dream of homeownership. At the session, people will learn the application process and what it takes to qualify and the steps they must take.

Basic qualifications includes, income between $23,000-$45,000 per year (income levels vary by size of family), ability to pay 0 percent mortgage payment between $550-$750 per month and willingness to help with the construction of their own home. Those interested should call (847) 836-1432 in order to reserve a space. There will be no child care on site and attendees must stay the entire session in order to apply.

Now in its 21st year, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a not-for-profit, ecumenical home-building organization that works around the world to provide safe, decent, affordable shelter for families in need.

As an affiliate, its mission is to build homes for qualifying families in our area, selling them at cost, providing zero-interest mortgage loans, and using volunteer labor to control those costs.

Founded in 1990, Northern Fox Valley has built or rehabbed 60 homes in Carpentersville, Elgin and St. Charles. Its service area extends from Route 176 on the north to Route 38 on the south, from Chicago on the east to Route 47 on the west.
