Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Freshman Monica Ramirez scored 2 goals and freshman Corey Lepoudre notched a goal and an assist to lift St. Edward to a 7-1 victory over Guerin in Suburban Christian Conference girls soccer action in Elgin Thursday.

Alison Kruk, Mallory Malone, Kim Smith and Paige Gannon each scored a goal, while Gannon (1 save) and Emily Witt (0 saves) combined to allow only 1 goal.

“It was a nice game,” St. Edward coach Tim Brieger said after his team improved to 6-2-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. “We got everyone in, so it was a nice game for us.”

Hampshire 3, Richmond-Burton 1: Dichelle Spielman contributed a goal and an assist and Natalie Starrenburg and Emily Zeller each scored a goal to keep the Whip-Purs (7-2-4, 2-0) undefeated in Big Northern East play.

“The girls played a nice game in tough conditions,” Hampshire coach Pat O’Brien said. “Natalie’s goal 29 seconds into the game really helped settle the team.”

Burlington Central 3, Harvard 0: Maddie Stoneman scored 2 goals early in the first half four minutes apart and the Rockets netted a third marker minutes before halftime when Heather Krup capitalized on a through ball from Camille Dela Cruz. Caitlin Solberg made 8 saves in net to notch the shutout for Central (4-4, 2-0).

Bartlett 1, St. Charles East 1: Nicole Gobbo’s goal at 30:34 of the first half, assisted by Amanda Zindel, was the only scoring for the Hawks in this Upstate Eight Conference crossover draw in St. Charles. Natalia Grodzki made 10 saves.

“Natalia had a fantastic game,” Bartlett coach Heather Thomas said. “She had a game-saving save with 13 seconds left. Overall, it was a great, hard-fought game with good opportunities.”Neuqua Valley 7, Larkin 0: Zoey Goralski scored a goal and had an assist and Talise Romain scored 2 goals as the visiting Wildcats improved to 10-0 with an Upstate Eight Conference crossover victory at Memorial Field in Elgin. Diana Hernandez made 8 saves for Larkin.

Crystal Lake South 2, Woodstock 0: Kali Loescher scored twice in the first half, assisted by Alex Romano and Karli Schumacher, and Elizabeth Quinn made 1 save to record her fifth shutout of the season in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory for CL South (5-4-2, 4-1).Libertyville 4, Jacobs 0: The Wildcats scored 3 first-half goals en route to the nonconference victory. Meghan Minogue and Monica Orjeula each made 4 saves as goalkeepers for Jacobs (11-4).

Harvest Christian Academy 2, Christian Liberty Academy 1: Brittany Salazar scored the go-ahead goal with under 15 minutes to play to lift Harvest Christian Academy of Elgin to a nonconference victory in Arlington Heights. Emily Janus scored a goal in the first half and goalkeeper Tori Nelson made 8 saves for Harvest Christian Academy (3-1).
