Kern powers Stevenson past Libertyville

Ricky Kern homered and singled, as Stevenson’s baseball team pulled away late to beat Libertyville for the second day in a row.

The Patriots’ 9-2 win hiked their record to 5-0, including 2-0 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Max Golembo went 2-for-4, Brandon Waters was 1-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, and Jack Karras also doubled for Stevenson. Tyler Radtke picked up the win, throwing 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Dalsen Ferbert.

Warren 14, Zion-Benton 6: Kevin Colburn was 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and 3 RBI, and Mike Herrmann went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, as the Blue Devils won their North Suburban Lake game with the Zee-Bees for the second straight day.

Ryan Kennedy improved to 2-1, striking out nine in 6 innnigs. He allowed 8 hits and 5 runs.

Wauconda 13, Round Lake 2: The Bulldogs beat the Panthers in North Suburban Prairie action for the second day in a row.

Round Lake freshman Ryan Newman had a single and an RBI.

Lakes 6, Prairie Ridge 2: The Eagles scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to seal the nonconference victory

With the Eagles leading 2-1 and two out in the top of the seventh, senior Jake Wisniewski crushed a double into the wind to left-center field, scoring Jake Brown from first base. After a walk to Matt Dexheimer, junior Chris Hoffman and senior A.J. Metzger hit consecutive singles to score 3 more runs for the Eagles.

Lakes junior Steve Kohler threw the last two innings in relief of Hoffman, who pitched the first five innings for his first win of the season, allowing only 1 unearned run on 2 hits.

Hoffman finished 2-for-4 at the plate, scored twice and stole a base.

Grant 27, North Chicago 1: Jared Helmich earned the win for the Bulldogs, who defeated the Warhawks for the second straight day.

Grant scored 15 runs in the third inning.
