Freshman helps South Elgin edge Bartlett

Freshman midfielder Savanah Uveges scored the only goal of the match in the first half, assisted by sophomore Janette Salas, and South Elgin goalkeeper Kaylie Latsonas made 9 saves to lift the Storm past rival Bartlett 1-0 in an Upstate Eight Valley match at Millennium Field in Streamwood Tuesday.

“I’m very proud of our defense,” South Elgin coach Tiffany Disher said. “Kelsey Fitzpatrick really stood out.”

Disher also complimented Bartlett defender Lisa Palmer. “She was a very good defender and gave us a really hard time,” Disher said.

Junior keeper Natalia Grodzki made 6 saves for Bartlett, which slipped to 5-3-2, 0-1. The victory lifted the Storm to 6-3 overall, 2-0 in the Valley.

Hampshire 1, Rockford Lutheran 0, OT: Freshman Alex Zeller scored an unassisted goal in overtime to lift Hampshire (3-1-4) to victory in a Big Northern Conference crossover in Rockford. Goalkeeper Alex Dumoulin made 3 saves in the first half and Hayley Moscato made 5 saves after halftime.

Huntley 1, Plainfield North 0: The Red Raiders knocked off a state power in the Pepsi Showdown Tuesday. Sam Zobott struck a right-footed direct kick from 28 yards with 15 minutes left in the second half for the only goal of the match against Plainfield North, which came in ranked No. 5 in Illinois and No. 26 nationally by ESPN Rise.

“The ball curled up and around the wall and just inside the post,” Huntley coach Kris Grabner said of Zobott’s winning shot.

Huntley (4-0-0) outshot the Tigers 19-12. Senior goalkeeper Kaytlyn Owens stopped all 6 shots she faced.

Crystal Lake South 2, Cary-Grove 0: The Gators scored twice in the second half to pull past the rival Trojans in a Fox Valley Conference match in Cary. Alex Romano scored the first goal, assisted by freshman Audrey Collard and senior Kali Loescher. Cella Albuquerque notched the second goal, assisted by junior midfielder Lauren Perrine. Elizabeth Quinn made 6 saves to record her third straight shutout for CL South (3-3-2, 2-0). Goalkeeper Krystal Felderman made 2 saves for Cary-Grove (5-5, 2-1).Dundee-Crown 2, Johnsburg 0: Jill Wiechmann was fouled in the box in the first half, which led to a penalty kick goal for Clare Mazurkiewicz. Hannah Larsen scored in the second half, courtesy of a longball from Mazurkiewicz.

#147;I thought the girls connected really well,#148; D-C coach Sebastian Falinski said. #147;We created many opportunities offensively, which also produced 7 corner kicks for us. It was a real nice team win.#148;

Goalkeeper Ali Sanders made 8 saves for Dundee-Crown (3-5-0, 2-0).

Geneva 8, Larkin 0: Diana Hernandez made 10 saves, but the Royals were unable to withstand the pressure from the talented Vikings in their first meeting in the Upstate Eight River.

Lake Park 3, Streamwood 2: Sophomore Kim Jimenez scored a goal in each half, both assisted by junior Gabrielle Martin, but it wasn#146;t enough to fend off a 3-goal outburst by the Lancers in an Upstate Eight Conference match at Millennium Field.
