Softball/Fox Valley roundup
The Perryman sisters did what they do best — pitch and hit — in leading the Elgin softball team to a 9-3 nonconference win over Oswego East Wednesday.
Freshman Jennah Perryman started in the circle and allowed 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in 4 innings of work. Her junior sister Hannah then came in to pitch the final 3 innings, not allowing a hit, striking out seven and walking one.
Hannah Perryman also hit a 2-run home run and Jennah Perryman had 2 hits and 2 runs scored for the Maroons (3-1).
Kelly Bremmer added 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Maroons, while Jaclyn Navarro also knocked in 2 runs.
Leyden 3, Larkin 0: Sam King had a double and Corinne Wimmer added 2 hits but Larkin (3-4) was blanked on the road in nonconference play. Kiernan Schock was Larkin’s losing pitcher.
Burlington, Streamwood split: Burlington Central pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 7 errors by Streamwood to win Game a by an 18-8 score, then the Sabres came back in the nightcap to win 6-5 in nonconference action. Brooke Gaylord (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Audrey Djukic (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Emily Bell (2-for-4, 2 RBI led the BC offense in the opener. Bekah Harnish was 2-for-5 with a double and Rebecca Roscher was the Rockets’ winning pitcher.
Holley Foret and Bri Bogdajewicz each had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Sabres and Kaylie Sambor belted a home run. Kellee Conquest was the losing pitcher.
In Game 2, Andrea Barajus was 3-for-3 with an RBI for Streamwood (1-2) and Jenna Szabo was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Kelsey Johnson picked up the win. Bell had 2 more hits for the Rockets (2-2). Gaylord was the losing pitcher. She struck out eight but walked six.
College softball
ECC splits: Jennifer Jordan picked up her first collegiate win as Elgin Community College downed Triton 3-1 in eight innings in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader. Triton came back to win the second game 8-5. Jordan had 8 strikeouts and allowed just 4 hits in the opener. Layla Ismajlaj (3-for-4, 2B, RBI), Jordan Hogue (2-for-2, 2 RBI, game-winning HR) and Brittany Heine (2-for-3) led the ECC offense. In the nightcap, Hogue was 2-for-3 with another home run and Ashley Scheffler had a double and 2 RBI for the Spartans. Megan Kowalski took the loss in the circle.
