Seniors basketball all-star rosters released
The Warren and North Chicago boys and Zion-Benton girls basketball teams gave Lake County fans plenty to cheer about with appearances in the IHSA state finals the last three weeks.
Warren and Zion Benton were state-runner-ups in Class 4A while North Chicago took fourth place in Class 3A.
Lake County basketball fans will have one more chance to cheer at the second annual Lake County Senior Shootout High School All-Star Game which will be played Friday, April 22 at College of Lake County.
“This year’s game will add a lot more excitement for the players and fans,” said coordinator Fred Fleming. “We’ve added a co-ed 3-point contest matching up some of the areas best girls against the boys, and the ever popular Slam Dunk Competition, which will sure be a treat.”
The event is sponsored by Fred Fleming Sports Inc. & the American Heart Association.
“We want to continue to raise awareness of the seriousness of the disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (the No. 1 cause of death to young athletes) and how important it is to get student/athletes tested,” Fleming said. “With the recent death of a Michigan high basketball player, Wes Leonard (a 16-year-old basketball player who died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy a few weeks ago), I think it is important that our community knows the severity of this disease.”
