Lewis Black brings his stand-up routine to ECC

The Elgin Community College Arts Center will be in the black for one night only — as popular comedian Lewis Black performs at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.

Due to adult content and language, the show is open only to people 18 and over.

Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC box office in the arts center, open noon-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and noon-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. By phone, call (847) 622-0300.

Black rose to prominence on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” where he offered a sampling of his stand-up comedy performances, which blend his passionate delivery with commentary on today’s issues and events.

“The Daily Show” opened new avenues for Black, including a Grammy-winning comedy recording and three additional Grammy nominations, one of which was announced Dec. 3. He has filmed two HBO comedy specials — one Emmy-nominated — and has been featured in film roles, comedy tours and appearances on late-night television shows. He has written two best-selling books: “Nothing’s Sacred” and “Me of Little Faith.” He tours regularly with the USO to entertain troops.

Black also has penned more than 40 plays, and before his stand-up career he was the playwright-in-residence at a New York City theater and oversaw the development of more than 1,000 plays, including works by “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin, “American Beauty” writer Alan Ball and his own original works.
