Lewis Black to perform February show at ECC
The Elgin Community College Arts Center will be in the black for one night only as wildly popular comedian Lewis Black performs at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. Tickets to this newly-added show are now on sale. Due to adult content and language, this show is only open to people 18 years and older.
“When we learned there was an opportunity to bring Lewis Black to ECC, we jumped at the chance,” notes Steve Duchrow, arts center director. “Black is one of the biggest names in comedy today, and he is going to be right here on our stage. I get pretty excited just thinking about it.”
Black rose to prominence on Comedy Central's “The Daily Show,” where he commented on whatever upset him during his popular “Black in Black” segments. His appearances on “The Daily Show” were a sampling of his stand-up comedy performances, which blend his signature passionate stage delivery with clever commentary on today's issues and events.
“The Daily Show” opened new avenues for Black, including a Grammy-winning comedy recording and three additional Grammy nominations, one of which was just announced Dec. 3. He has filmed two HBO comedy specials one of which was Emmy-nominated and has been featured in film roles, comedy tours and appearances on late-night television shows. He has written two best-selling books: “Nothing's Sacred” and “Me of Little Faith.” In support of military personnel, he tours regularly with the USO.
Black also is a playwright, penning more than 40 plays, many of which have been produced around the country. Before his stand-up career, he was the playwright-in-residence at a New York City theater and oversaw the development of more than 1,000 plays, including works by “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin, “American Beauty” writer Alan Ball and his own original works.
