Three file for Glenbard District 87 seats

An outspoken critic of Glenbard High School District 87's move toward a standard curriculum says her run for a school board seat doesn't mean she intends to rehash her argument.

Instead, she says she wants to serve the district that has seen two of her children graduate with a third on the way.

“I am definitely not running as a one-issue candidate,” said Glenbard West parent and booster club board member Mary Ozog. “I have been very happy with my children's experience and would like to serve the district to be a voice for students and parents.”

Ozog filed for the race Monday morning, along with incumbents Tom Trefilek and Steve Sebby. Board president Rose Malcolm said last month she will run but had not filed as of Monday afternoon.

Three 4-year school board terms are available in the April election.

In January, Ozog was one of several parents to grill Superintendent Mike Meissen after the district announced it would eliminate an honors class as part of a plan to create one consistent curriculum across the district's four schools. Ozog has a background in political science and urban planning.

Trefilek and Sebby are both completing their first terms. Malcolm is seeking a fourth term.
