EYSO's 'Grape Expectations' fundraiser on tap

On Friday, Dec. 3, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra board of directors will host its annual fundraiser, “Grape Expectations Christmas in New Orleans,” from 7 to 10 p.m. in the New Orleans Ballroom at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles.

Over the years, “Grape Expectations” has grown in popularity and size. The event will be held at the Pheasant Run for the very first time. The organization is also proud to have the support of The Geneva Wine Seller and Graham's Fine Chocolate and Ice Cream, two area businesses donating their services to help support almost 300 young musicians.

“Grape Expectations” includes live music from EYSO musicians, a silent auction with dozens of items and a raffle drawing. The evening is full of lively conversation and the opportunity to taste numerous quality wines paired with great handmade chocolates, as well as a Bourbon Street appetizer collection featuring popular New Orleans' dishes.

All of proceeds from the event support the EYSO scholarship fund, assisting the organization in its mission to give all qualified students the opportunity to participate in the award-winning orchestra. Nearly 300 students from over 60 communities are members of the EYSO this year.

You can make a difference and support up-and-coming musicians while enjoying a fun night out in St. Charles. The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra gives young musicians the opportunity to learn valuable life skills through playing music in a supportive, yet challenging environment. With six performing ensembles, the EYSO strives to meet the needs of every student musician, from beginner through advanced (sixth grade through college).

According to EYSO President Dave Conroy, “The principal obstacle for many young musicians is the money to participate in a youth orchestra.”

This event helps to raise money for the many scholarships given to EYSO students.

Tickets for the seventh annual “Grape Expectations” event are $75 per person in advance or $85 at the door. Tickets for the raffle prizes are $5 each or five for $20. The drawing will take place the evening of the event; winners need not be present. Raffle tickets may also be purchased online before the event.

Tickets can also be purchased by calling the EYSO office at (847) 841-7700. The EYSO is also looking for donors and sponsors for the event including financial or silent auction donations.
