Hoffman Estates playing like a team of Destinee
Destiny was calling for the Hoffman Estates girls basketball team on Saturday at the Elk-Grove-Lake Park-Hoffman-Estates tournament.
After Destinee Young played the finest game of her young career, Hoffman was calling this one a third straight victory as the Hawks soared to a 69-27 triumph over Rockford Jefferson.
The Hawks and Elk Grove, both 3-0 in the tourney, will face off at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Park west campus.
Young, a 6-foot sophomore forward, poured in a career-high 17 points while only playing the first and third quarters.
She also pulled down 9 rebounds.
“Destinee had a great game,” said Hawks coach Mike Nocella, whose bench has played the same amount of time as the starters in all three games this season. “She hit the boards, put shots back up and also probably had 3 or 4 assists. She really made her presence felt.”
Senior Jada Stotts added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners while sophomore Becca Stoczynski came off the bench to collected 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Elk Grove 50, Lake Park 37: Sophomore forward Diamond Boyd (16 points) and senior guard Maggie Fries (11 points, 3 3-pointers) led Elk Grove (3-0) to its third straight win in the Elk Grove-Lake Park-Hoffman Estates tourney.
Leah Miller, Kelly Naughton and Boyd also had 3-pointers.
Rolling Meadows 38, Prairie Ridge 23: Freshman Jacqueline Kemph scored 15 points as Meadows (4-0) won its fourth straight at the Mundelein tourney. Sophomore Morgan Keller added 7 points and Sara Shumaker 6 for the Mustangs, who led 18-6 at intermission.
Prospect 77, Queen of Peace 39: Prospect (1-2) earned its first win of the season and in the Lyons Tourney (1-1) as sophomores Michelle Molini (19 points) and Adriane Falagario (11) led the way. Both had three 3-pointers while junior Christina Brucci had one.
Grayslake Central 58, Barrington 42: The Fillies (1-1) were led by senior guard Abby Kirchoff's 24 points while classmates Brooke Chandor and Sarah Mass each added 6 in the Bison Classic.
Libertyville 54, Buffalo Grove 51: Senior Andrea DiPrima's 20 points (4 3-pointers) led the Bison (0-2) while KC Dunne, Bailey North and Emily Cho each added 8 points in the Bison Classic second-round contest.
Addison Trail 60, Leyden 36: Senior forward Tashemia McKinney (15 points) and senior guard Moira Quinlan (9), who hit three 3-pointers, led the Eagles in the Fenton tourney.
Cary-Grove 53, St. Viator 42: The Lions (0-2) were led by senior guard Taylor Skala (11 points, 6 steals, 5 assists, 3 rebounds) in the Dundee-Crown tourney game.
Emily Leazer (9 rebounds), Megan Bailey, Katie Calmeyn and Mallory Hess each added 7 points for Viator.
