Celebrate veterans at Holidays for Heroes pancake breakfast

Warrenville VFW Post 8081 will host a pancake breakfast to benefit Holidays for Heroes and celebrate Veteran's Day from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 13 at the post, 3S371 Mignin Drive in Warrenville.

In addition to breakfast, the event will feature a 50/50 raffle, prize drawings and a performance by Legacy Girls who will take you on a musical journey in classic Andrews Sisters style!

Holidays for Heroes is celebrating its 10th year of making the holidays season warm for veterans at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood. More than 631,000 patient visits took place at Hines during 2009. Because medical care is provided to our veterans at a discounted rate or completely free of charge, Hines relies upon community support for a variety of needs.

Holidays for Heroes works to provide patients with comfort items including toothbrushes, shaving cream, deodorant and many other necessities that the hospital cannot provide. This year, the program also hopes to raise enough money to sponsor a play area for patient's children in the emergency room as well as other items on the hospital's list of greatest needs. We can only do this with your help.

Last year, the community's generous support of this program enabled Holidays for Heroes to deliver more than 150 bags filled with personal items to veterans at Hines as well as provide the emergency room with a needed medical refrigerator and supply the new Fisher House with items for families of injured soldiers. Holidays for Heroes celebrated its most successful year in 2009 and we hope you will join us in 2010 as we keep our veterans warm and spread holiday cheer.

The cost of breakfast is $5 per person. On-duty police, fire and public works employees will receive a free breakfast.
