Scouting Glenbard West at WW South

No. 2 Glenbard West (10-1) at No. 1 Wheaton Warrenville South (11-0)

Class 7A quarterfinals

Game time: 4 p.m. Saturday.

How they got here: Glenbard West beat Plainfield North 51-12 and Lincoln-Way East 42-28. WW South beat Benet 49-7 and Wheaton North 44-0.

Outlook: Glenbard West's defense is the latest group to attempt to slow down Tigers quarterback Reilly O'Toole, who's thrown for 2,354 yards and 36 touchdowns. Can Hilltoppers defensive linemen Tommy Schutt and Zack Marshall create pressure without too much blitz help? WW South's offensive line, led by Luke Luhrsen, must protect O'Toole and plow holes for running back Matt Rogers, who's rushed for 969 yards. Led by Glenbard West linebacker Beau Warden and safety Mike Laning, run defense is a strength. On the other side of the ball, WW South's defense anchored by lineman Will Davis, linebacker Mike Monterrubio and safety Caleb Bednarz has not yet faced this many playmakers. Speedy Hilltoppers running backs Nick Burrello and Kendall Johnson have combined for 1,791 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns while receiver Mark Hiben, who last week broke a state record with 319 receiving yards, is an obvious big-play threat for quarterback Daver Glawe.

Advancement: Winner plays the winner between No. 5 Belleville East (9-2) and No. 3 Minooka (10-1).
