St. Charles author to speak at ECC Writers Center series
St. Charles author D.C. Brod will be the next guest of the Elgin Community College Writers Center Reading Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, Room VPA 191D, on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Brod refined her touch for capers and thrillers at the ECC Writers Center and produced her first novel, “Murder In Store,” in 1989. The novel was the first of a five-book series featuring private detective Quint McCauley, who resided in the fictional Chicago suburb of Foxport.
Her other work includes the contemporary Arthurian thriller “Heartstone” and several anthologies. Brod's short stories also have appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. Several of her stories have won Reader's Choice Awards.
Brod's latest novel, 2010's “Getting Sassy,” received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly, which stated, “Caper fans will relish Brod's offbeat stand-alone thriller.” The comic caper features a down-on-her-luck writer who conspires with her accountant to steal a treasured goat from a con man who bilked her mother of her savings.
A pre-reading dinner with the author will be at 5:30 p.m. For reservations, contact Rachael Tecza at rtecza@elgin.edu or (847) 214-7578. Copies of Brod's work also will be available for sale and signing at the event.
