It's not too late for flu shots in McHenry County
The McHenry County Department of Health has additional influenza vaccines available for children.
The department will offer the vaccines at two clinics this month. Medicaid is accepted, and the cost for those who are not covered by Medicaid is $15.
The vaccines are available for children ages 6 months to 18 years old. An intranasal vaccine is also available for children older than 2.
The clinics will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15, at the McHenry County Administration Building, 2200 N Seminary Ave., Woodstock, and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, and Friday, Nov. 19, at 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the Health Department at (815) 334-4500.
Congratulations: A Huntley High School senior has been named as a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Erik Andersson will be presented with a Letter of Commendation from Huntley High School and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program. Although Commended Students will not continue on the quest for a National Merit Scholarship, they represent the top 5 percent of students who entered the 2011 competition.

This weekend, the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center is offering you the opportunity to personalize your holiday correspondence with a Santa's Photo event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at its Crystal Lake location, 100 Virginia St.
The cost is $10 for a 4-by-6-inch color photo of your pet and Santa in a Christmas card setting. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (815) 459-6222.
