Scouting Wheaton North at WW South

No. 4 Wheaton North (8-2) at No. 1 Wheaton Warrenville South (10-0)

Class 7A

Game time: 7 p.m. Saturday.

Last week: Wheaton North 27, Marian Catholic 12; Wheaton Warrenville South 49, Benet 7.

Outlook: These cross-town rivals split their only two playoff meetings in the late 1980s, but WW South has won the last eight regular-season games, including a 42-14 win in Week 6. What will be different for Wheaton North this time? That's the challenge facing the Falcons and quarterback Reece Butler, who threw for 186 of his 1,847 yards the first time. Four turnovers, however, doomed the Falcons. The Tigers and quarterback Reilly O'Toole have scored at least 40 points eight times. O'Toole, who has thrown for 2,116 yards and 31 touchdowns, threw his only interception in Week 2. With only 4 team turnovers and a plus-19 ratio for the Tigers, Wheaton North can't expect much even though cornerback John Bloss boasts 9 interceptions. Extending drives with running back Patrick Sharp and Butler's short passing game is paramount, although that'll be tough against the Tigers' defense led by lineman Will Davis, linebacker Mike Monterrubio and safety Caleb Bednarz.

Advancement: Winner plays Saturday's winner between No. 3 Lincoln-Way East (9-1) and No. 2 Glenbard West (9-1).
