Hampshire knocks off Kaneland
Alex Dumoulin had 14 kills and Tia Incapreo contributed 11 digs Thursday night as the Hampshire girls volleyball team defeated Kaneland 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 in the opening round of the Class 2A Kaneland regional.
The Whip-Purs (19-15) will take on Sycamore at 2 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship.
Leigh-Anne Libby added 27 assists for Hampshire in Thursday's win. Sycamore defeated Burlington Central 25-17, 25-22 in Thursday's other semifinal.
Cary-Grove d. Round Lake: The defending Class 4A champion Trojans began the postseason by making quick work of Round Lake, 25-4, 25-13, at the Cary-Grove regional. Cary-Grove (36-0), which has won 52 straight, takes on Barrington at 7 p.m. Saturday for the regional title. Kelly Lamberti had 4 kills and 7 aces and Colleen Smith added 7 assists and 2 aces in Thursday's win.
Schaumburg d. Bartlett: The Hawks took Schaumburg to the limit but fell in the end 25-19, 24-26, 25-22 in the Class 4A York regional. Jacki Gulczynski had 10 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks, Lauren Hartford had 12 kills and 9 digs, Kelly Kraft had 8 kills, Tori Burke had 10 digs and 26 assists and Alex Etzel had 7 digs to lead Bartlett, which finished the season 22-13-1. “It was a good match,” said Hawks coach Brandon Mueller. “The girls played well but Schaumburg made a couple more plays than us.”
