Gaelic Storm to perform in Elgin

Gaelic Storm will bring its energetic, foot-stomping show to Elgin Community College on Saturday, Oct. 30. The quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the ECC Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Since its beginnings in a California pub on St. Patrick's Day in 1996, Gaelic Storm has become one of the nation's hottest Celtic bands. Playing more than 125 annual tour dates, the band is noted for its high-spirited live performances of compelling originals and fresh arrangements. Numbers like “What's the Rumpus? and “Kiss Me, I'm Irish are steeped in the Celtic traditional melody, but fused with the band's unique blend of world rhythms.

Gaelic Storm experienced mass exposure as the steerage band that performed during a critical scene in James Cameron's “Titanic, the second highest-grossing film of all time. Gaelic Storm has released eight albums, the latest being 2010's “Cabbage, that often topped the Billboard world music charts. The band also is featured in a St. Patrick's Day Hallmark greeting card and in the popular The Sims video game series.

Tickets are $40. A three-course, Irish-themed preshow gourmet dinner prepared by students of ECC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program can be purchased for an additional $35. Dinners include beer and must be purchased in advance on or before Monday, Oct. 25.
