Motorcyclist in Des Plaines crash identified

A motorcyclist in his late teens was seriously injured in Des Plaines Thursday afternoon when he struck a guard rail, authorities said.
Alex Mihaila, 19, of Chicago, was leaving parking lot A at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road in Des Plaines, when he lost control of the motorcycle at about 2 p.m. Thursday and hit the ground, authorities said.
Authorities said Mihaila was not wearing a helmet when driving the Suzuki GSXR 600, but that a helmet was on the motorcycle at the time of the crash.
He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries, authorities said.
Police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
