Award-winning bassist to perform at ECC

Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten is bringing his brand of funk, jazz and other sonic surprises back to Elgin Community College's Arts Center Saturday, Oct. 9. Wooten will perform with drummer J.D. Blair at 7:30 p.m. at the ECC Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Wooten is a three-time winner of the "Bass Player of the Year" award from Bass Player Magazine and has won Grammys as a member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

Wooten has recorded and performed with artists such as Branford Marsalis, Mike Stern, Bruce Hornsby, Chick Corea, Dave Matthews and Prince. His 2008 recording, "Palmystery," is a genre-bending eclecticism that embraces a range of styles jazz, funk, pop, soul, gospel, world music and more.

Known as "The Groove Regulator," J.D. Blair frequently collaborates with Wooten. His drum and percussion work can be heard on projects with gospel artists Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans and Yolanda Adams; jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum; and funk pioneer Bootsy Collins.

Blair's solo work brings a mix of funk, soul and a penchant for the unusualwhich are on full display on his latest release, "3hree."
