New theater company formsOpen auditions are being held for a new theater company in West Chicago. Plans call for an initial season of two plays and one musical. Informational meetings along with the auditions are set for 7 p.m. tonight at Gallery 200/STUDIO, 203 Turner Court. Volunteers are needed in all categories, including script writers, actors, directors, public relations specialists, lighting, sound and box office. Roles will be available for actors age 18 to 80. Activities include a kids' "bounce house," drawing to win a ride home from school in a fire truck, auto extrication and a fire extinguisher demonstration.Villa Park sales tax meetingsVilla Park will hold a series of community meetings - including a tour of one of the village's bumpiest streets - to discuss the proposed .5 percent sales tax increase to pay for road repairs. Meetings are set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Community Recreation Building, 320 E. Wildwood Street; 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Iowa Community Center, 388 N. Iowa Avenue; 6 p.m. Oct. 12, at Ardmore and Kenilworth and then walking west on Kenilworth; 7 p.m. October 13 at Willowbrook High School room C-2, enter through Door 1 on the east side of the school facing Ardmore Avenue; 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Sugar Creek Golf Course, 500 E. On Nov. 2, the village will ask voters to approve an increase in the sales tax from 7.75 to 8.25 percent, to raise up to $1.5 million a year in extra revenue.Meet Meissen TuesdayGlenbard High School District 87 Superintendent Mike Meissen will meet with the public at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the district's offices, 671 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The meeting is the first of four Citizens Communication Forum meetings Meissen has with the community. Meetings are also scheduled for January and March.Dist. 108 nominating petitionsNominating petition forms for the April 5, 2011 school board election in Lake Park High School District 108 are now available. Forms may be picked up between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays in the office of the board secretary at 590 S. Medinah Road. A candidate's petition must be filed in the same office no earlier that 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13 and no later than 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 20. Candidates' names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received. Three seats on the seven-member board of education will be filled at the April 5 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2015. One unexpired vacancy term will also be filled on April 5; that member will serve until April 2013. To be eligible, a candidate must be on the date of election: a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.
