Two arrested in connection with threats at Glenbard East

Two juveniles face charges for two separate incidents involving threatening graffiti at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, police said Friday.

The two are expected to proceed through both the juvenile court system and the school's disciplinary system for writing threatening messages inside bathroom stalls, authorities said.

"Both of these students made very poor decisions that affected a lot of people," Lombard police Chief Ray Byrne said in a news release. "They will be dealing with serious consequences as a result of their actions for a long time."

Authorities said it appears the students had no intent to carry through on the threats but were focused instead on disrupting school and classes.

The first message appeared Sept. 15 inside a women's bathroom stall. Police said they arrested a juvenile Thursday for that incident.

A student discovered the second message Wednesday, which contained Thursday's date and a "crude drawing of a firearm and the word 'kill' repeated," according to the school's website. A juvenile was arrested Friday for the second incident, police said.

Glenbard East security personnel and Lombard police began investigating after the first message was discovered and increased their presence in the school.

The school remained open during the investigation.

"We would not have allowed anyone to be in our building if we thought there was a danger to anyone," Glenbard East Principal Josh Chambers said in a release.
