ECC teacher beaten in parking lot
An Elgin Community College instructor was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after telling campus police he was beaten in the parking lot.
Heidi Healy, the college's director of communications, said the instructor called campus police at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. The instructor told police he'd just been attacked in a parking lot near the truck yard at the college.
Healy said the instructor's injuries were not serious, but campus protocol required transport to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin by ambulance. Healy said the instructor was treated, released and intends to be back to work on Thursday.
ECC police are leading the investigation along with assistance from Elgin Police. The number of attackers and the motive for the assault is unknown.
"There are still a number of questions," Healy said. "But to the best of our knowledge at this point, the event that occurred is an isolated incident."
Healy said there are security cameras throughout the campus, but she was not sure if any of the cameras filmed the attack. She said campus police will be reviewing footage of any camera near the scene of the incident.
