Prairie Ridge edges Lake Zurich
Lake Zurich's girls volleyball team hosted an always tough Prairie Ridge squad Tuesday night, and the match was, predictably, tough.
Prairie Ridge prevailed 19-25, 25-19, 25-18 in nonconference action.
Amanda Orchard had 11 kills, 4 blocks and 3 aces for Lake Zurich (1-1). Natalie Gora added 8 kills for the Bears, while her teammate Alexis Hartman lofted 22 assists on 61-of-66 setting. Hartman also served 2 aces.
Layne Self posted 5 blocks and 4 kills for Lake Zurich.
Grayslake Central d. McHenry: Klaudia Basierak slammed 9 kills and served 3 aces in the Rams' 25-20, 25-13 win.
Allie Black (2 blocks) and Hannah Smith added 5 and 4 kills, respectively, and Steph Pimpo notched a team-best 7 digs. The Rams (2-0) received 2 aces apiece from Pimpo, Black, Emily Anderson and Emily Wickenkamp.
"We started a bit slower than we wanted to, but once we got clicking, we were able to take control of the match," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "We were able to capitalize on our ability to hit zones serving."
CL South d. Grayslake North: Katie McGrath had 3 kills and 5 digs for the Knights in their 25-13, 25-20 loss to the Gators.
Kelsey Klausner also had 3 kills for Grayslake North, while Jenni Babula contributed 2 kills and 2 blocks. Kayla Huck posted 15 digs. Lauren Trahan (19-of-21 setting) and Kaitlyn Woodward (19 of 20) dished 6 and 4 assists, respectively. Trahan also served 9 of 9 with 2 aces.
Wauconda d. Marengo: Erinn Hellweg had 11 kills, 19 digs and 3 blocks, as the Bulldogs prevailed 20-25, 25-20, 25-19 for their first win of the season.
Megan Tallman and Cara Nance each had 5 kills for Wauconda (1-1). Ali Morrison and Tallman delivered 5 and 4 aces, respectively. Tallman also dished out 23 assists.
Glenbrook North d. Mundelein: The Mustangs fell 25-23, 24-26, 25-13, despite 5 kills and 2 blocks from Ashley Dolin.
Brittany Busscher served 3 aces for Mundelein (2-1), and Mackenzie Boich had 3 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces. Karen Chin set 40 of 40 with 12 assists for the Mustangs.
