Jacobs' Albano ties Fox Valley area HR record with 15th

Jacobs senior Ben Albano tied the Fox Valley area's all-time home run record Tuesday when he smacked his 15th of the season, a 2-run shot in the sixth inning of a 10-1 victory against Valley Division leader McHenry in Algonquin.

Albano tied the record set last year by Streamwood's Brian Brauer. The left fielder leads the 2010 home run race by one over Burlington Central catcher Austin Jarvis, who launched his 13th and 14th home runs home runs in a win against Sandwich Tuesday.

Sophomore Henry Gigeous (2-4) pitched the Golden Eagles to victory by throwing a 1-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts. Matt Schmidt (2-for-4, 3 RBI) also homered in the fifth straight victory for Jacobs (17-13-1, 11-10).

Cary-Grove 5, Crystal Lake South 4: The Cary-Grove baseball team grabbed the outright lead in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference on the strength of a walk-off single by junior Michael Vilardo. With 3 games to play, Cary-Grove (20-11, 15-6) holds a 1-game lead over Huntley (21-9, 14-7) and McHenry (19-10, 14-7).

Crystal Lake South (19-12, 13-8) tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning on a home run by Robbie Lemke. The Trojans countered in the bottom of the seventh, when Nick Richter singled with one out and Eric Chandler doubled. After an intentional walk to Stu Gaulke, Vilardo singled to left field to win the game.

Steve Mihalik (3-2) notched the win after 11/3 innings of relief. CL South reliever Ryan Price took the loss. Alex Macaulay (2-4) tripled and homered for the Gators.

"We played a real good game," Trojans coach Don Sutherland said. "We didn't capitalize early, but we got some timely hitting and sound pitching."

Burlington Central 10, Sandwich 1: Austin Jarvis hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs, Zach Romando went 2-for-3 with a home run and Tanner Scott was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI to lead Burlington Central to a nonconference win on Rocket Hill. The victory allowed the Rockets (30-1) to reach 30 wins for the first time in school history. Junior Nick Hahn improved to 10-0 after allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits in 6 innings. He struck out 7.

Lake Park 4, Elgin 3: The Lancers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to nip the Maroons in an Upstate Eight game in Roselle. Javier Cárdenas tripled and drove in 2 runs for Elgin (4-25, 3-20). David Penaloza (1-4) took the loss.

Waubonsie Valley 8, Larkin 0: Drew Shore, Alex Wahl and Shane Glasgow had the only 3 hits for Larkin (9-21, 8-14) in an Upstate Eight loss to the Warriors in Elgin.

Neuqua Valley 11, Bartlett 1: Greg Partyka went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, but the Wildcats scored 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win by the 10-run rule. Mike DiCianni (2-5) absorbed the loss for Bartlett (11-18, 7-15)
