Comedy trio shows us lighter side of motherhood Saturday at ECC

The trio of Mama's Night Out will offer a Mother's Day weekend treat of hilarious insights on motherhood and life at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at Elgin Community College's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Stand-up comics Karen Morgan, Nancy Witter and Sherry Davey were chosen from more than 1,000 entries to be finalists for Nick at Nite's Search for the Funniest Mom in America. Although the women didn't win the competition, their friendship led to the formation of Mama's Night Out.

The show opens with each comic doing a set with their unique point of view - Morgan, a former trial attorney, with a Jeff Foxworthy-like take of "You Might be a Mamma"; Witter, a former office worker with a razor-sharp delivery; and Davey, an American-born, British-raised comedian known for her quick-witted, acid-tongued approach to life. The ladies close the show together with an audience question-and-answer session.

Audiences are encouraged to enjoy a preshow gourmet dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Cafe Roma, 2175 Point Blvd., Elgin. This Italian menu includes an antipasti misto starter of caprese, grilled vegetable and della casa insalata (mixed greens with house made white balsamic vinaigrette) accompanied with garlic cheese bread; an entree of chicken Marsala with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes; and a dessert of panna cotta with raspberry and blueberry coulis. The cost of the dinner is $30 per person and includes wine.

Also, mothers will be treated to a preshow pampering session that includes decadent chocolates, complimentary massages from students of the ECC massage therapy program, gourmet coffee and more in the arts center lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. Red roses will be given to the first 100 moms.

Premier seating is available for $32 and regular seating is $28. Tickets are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC box office.
