Stutzman no-hitter, Fremd offense stun Hoffman

Fremd junior left-hander Sean Stutzman didn't need much offensive support in Wednesday's Mid-Suburban West baseball game at Hoffman Estates.

But Stutzman got a barrage of help as he threw a no-hitter and Fremd (6-6, 2-2) racked up 22 hits in a stunning 26-0 victory in five innings over the division-leading Hawks.

Stutzman (2-1) had 8 strikeouts, allowed 1 walk and hit a batter against a Hoffman (7-9, 3-1) which scored 43 runs in a five-game winning streak. He threw a 1-hitter against Clemente on March 30.

"Stutzman did a great job of getting ahead of them and throwing strikes," said Fremd coach Chris Piggott. "Down 9 runs after two innings, it's tough offensively as well. I'm sure when we play them again it will be a different game."

Fremd added 12 runs in the third and Zenon Kolakowski (3-for-3, 2 RBI) had 2 of its 8 doubles as it rebounded from a 2-1 loss to Schaumburg. Kevin Ciardiello (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Eric Paulson (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Kurt Kaufman (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Stutzman (2-for-4) added to the attack.

Palatine 5, Conant 1: Tommy Galvan is focusing solely on pitching now for Palatine (10-7, 3-1). It looks like a solid move after the senior righty threw a complete-game 6-hitter in the MSL West win.

Galvan was the Pirates starting third baseman last year and early this year but figured it could be best to just pitch with the emergence of sophomore Kurt Becker at third.

"It was the ultimate team move," said Palatine coach Paul Belo. "Tom came to me last week and said, 'Look, coach, Kurt is of the equal.' He said, 'You put me at pitcher only and I'll be fresh and ready to give you everything I've got."

Which was really strong against Conant (7-4, 1-3) as Galvan threw 67 percent of his 93 pitches for strikes and had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"He really attacked the zone and did it with the confidence we expect our pitchers to do it with," Belo said.

Palatine broke a 1-1 tie with a 4-run fourth. Joe Campe walked and raced to an uncovered third base on Cody Bobbit's bunt single.

Trey Cannon followed with an RBI single to right and Bobbit scored on a bad throw. Mike Luschen had an RBI single, stole second and scored on Byron Skinner's double.

Meadows 12, Elk Grove 2 (6 inn.): Sophomore Eric Lowe (2-2) threw a 5-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk and was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to keep Rolling Meadows (5-11, 3-1) tied for first in the MSL East.

"That was probably the best he's thrown all year," said Meadows coach Jim Lindeman. "Eric threw strikes and didn't give them a chance to come back."

Sophomore Matt Hendricks went 4-for-4 and Steve Heer and Kevin Berry both went 3-for-4 for the Mustangs. Justin Kaczynski tripled for Elk Grove (6-11, 2-2).

BG 25, Wheeling 5 (5 inn.): Ryan Nisbet's 3-run homer in a 9-run second ignited Buffalo Grove (9-7, 2-2) in the five-inning MSL East win. Greg Sanders went the distance for his third win and went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.

Steve Pollakov (3-for-4) tripled and had 2 RBI and Brian Crowell (3-for-3) had a double, triple and 4 RBI as BG blew it open with an 11-run third. Edgar Banuelos doubled for Wheeling (4-12, 0-4).

Glenbrook S. 3, Schaumburg 2: Andy Keehn took the tough loss as he went the distance with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks for Schaumburg (5-7) in the nonconference loss.

Mark Bielanski doubled and had an RBI for Schaumburg.

DeLaSalle 6, St. Viator 3: Brendan King went 2-for-3 with a triple and 2 runs for St. Viator (8-5) in the nonconference loss at UIC.
