Sipiora, St. Viator stop New Trier
St. Viator made all the little things add up to a 3-2 nonconference baseball victory over New Trier at Duke Childs Field in Winnetka on Monday.
The beneficiary for the Lions (5-3) was senior Julian Sipiora (2-0). The right-hander threw a complete-game 7-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Sipiora reached on an error to start the Viator third and came around on Cory Kay's sacrifice, a stolen base and another error.
In the fourth, Rob Gentile walked and Jack Czeszewski singled. Sipiora sacrificed and Kay delivered a two-out, two-run double.
New Trier (2-5) got a run in the seventh.
Prospect 7, Warren 4: Clutch hitting, pitching and defense led Prospect (6-3) to the nonconference win at Warren (9-2).
Sophomore third baseman Jack Landwehr went 2-for-4 with a two-out, 2-run double in the third and started two of the Knights' 4 double plays. Peter Bonahoom had a 2-run single in he fourth and Steve Dazzo had a two-out RBI single in the fifth.
John Coen had 2 doubles and got 5 strikeouts to save it for winner Jack Mullenix.
Buffalo Grove 15, Maine South 7: Winner Greg Sanders and Andrew Van Wazer had 3 hits, a homer, double and 3 RBI, Ryan Nisbet homered and Tom Ricciardi was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for BG (7-3).
Schaumburg 10, Maine West 6: Joe Dombek (3-for-5, 3 steals), Joe Infusino (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Eric Englund (2 RBI) and winner Connor McHugh (2-for-3) led the way for Schaumburg (4-3).
Niles West 2, Barrington 0 (5 inn.): Jackson Lundmark allowed only 5 hits in the tough-luck loss for Barrington (7-5.)
Streamwood 6, Meadows 2: Kevin Cwynar had a double and an RBI and Kevin Berry had an RBI for Rolling Meadows (2-8).
