Stevenson swings into action against Hersey

Stevenson sweeps Hersey: The visiting Patriots pounded out 28 hits on the day, winning Game 1 of the nonconference doubleheader 7-1 and then taking the second game 11-1.

In the opener, Alyssa Vechiola went 4-for-5. Other big hitters were Allie Micucci (2-for-3, double, RBI), Ashley Niedermayer (2-for-4, double), Rebekah Ozga (2-for-5, 2 RBI), Heather Cohen (2-for-3, RBI), Jordan Willis (2-for-3) and Emma Patrash (double).

Micucci struck out six in a complete-game 3-hitter.

In Game 2, which lasted five innings, Patrash went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs. Amanda Jaegers was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Genny Duffy belted a 2-run homer. Duffy finished 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Willis was the winner, striking out three in her 5 frames.

The sweep hiked Stevenson's record to 4-5.

Grant splits: In the Prairie Ridge Quad at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, Grant pitcher Brie Brugioni struck out 15 in a 4-2 win over Prairie Ridge.

Rachel DePouw doubled and Kelly Kucharski tripled.

Grant (4-2) lost its first game of the day to Cary-Grove 4-1, despite a double by Brugioni.

Grayslake North sweeps: The Knights beat Highland Park twice, winning 8-3 and 14-3.

Ashley King was 6-for-8 on the day, while Kelsey Borders went 5-for-8.

Lake Zurich splits: After losing 17-16 to Deerfield, the Bears blanked Niles North 10-0 in its second game, as Megan Mattera pitched a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts over 5 innings.

Mattera also hit her third home run of the season and finished 2-for-2 at the plate with 3 RBI. Amanda Orchard (2-for-3, 2 runs), Paige Goldberg (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Alli McGinnis (1-for-2, 2 RBI) also had big games for Lake Zurich (4-6).

In the opener that featured a combined 42 hits, Lake Zurichs's hitting stars included Erin Sweeney (4-for-5, triple, RBI); Kelli Blume (2-for-5, 3 RBI); Steph Wonders (4-for-5, RBI); Mattera (2-for-5, RBI); Tabbetha Bohac (3-for-5, triple, 3 RBI); Ella Aslan (2-for-5, RBI); and Katrina Klausing (2-for-3, triple, 4 RBI).

Warren sweeps: The Blue Devils blanked Carmel 10-0, as Marcee Olivera pitched a 5-hitter over 7 innings. The offense was led by Abby Anderson (3-for-4, 2 runs); Lauren Sullivan (3-for-4, RBI); Olivera (2-for-3, 2 RBI); Amanda Reed (2-for-3, double, RBI); and Sarah Clauser (1-for-2, double, RBI).

Warren then edged Glenbrook South 3-2, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Anderson and Sarah Shanders (2 doubles) were both 2-for-3, while Lindsay Horwitz and Alex Booker both went 2-for-4.

In the seventh, Booker singled with two outs and stole second. She then scored on Horwitz's single.

Lakes 7, Grayslake C. 4: Meghan Milewski had a double for the Eagles, who pounded out 10 hits.
