Get help from government

The office of U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean will hold a government open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Harper College's Wojcik Center, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, in Palatine.

Various state and federal agencies will provide information on tax credits and other tax issues, Social Security and Medicare benefits, veterans benefits, housing issues and student loans, as well as help start a new case for anyone seeking assistance.

For homeowners who are having difficulty making mortgage payments, counselors certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will review paperwork and determine if the homeowner qualifies for assistance or a loan modification under the federal Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan.

District residents are asked to provide contact information and bring relevant documentation for follow-up.

For details, call Congresswoman Bean's District Office during business hours at (847) 517-2927. Bean, a Democrat from Barrington, represents the 8th Congressional District.
