Scott Ks 21 in ECC debut

Mackenzie Scott didn't waste any time making her mark on the junior college softball scene.

Scott, who pitched Burlington Central to third place in the 2009 Class 3A state high school tournament, made her Elgin Community College debut Tuesday.

And what a debut it was.

Scott struck out 21 of the 24 batters she faced and didn't allow a hit as the Spartans opened the season with a 3-0 win over South Suburban. Scott walked only one and the Spartans didn't make an error behind her.

And, for good measure, Scott jacked a solo home run and has 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead the offense. Layla Ismajlaj and Sophie Sterricker each had 2 hits as well for ECC.

The Spartans fell in the second game 6-5. Diana Besser suffered the loss, allowing all 6 runs but just 2 earned in 4 innings of work. Riki Ernst was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Sterricker had 2 hits and Ismajlaj, Jessie LoRusso, Barb Posinger and Scott each drove in runs.
